The 2022 hack
In September 2022 about 90 clips of early GTA 6 footage appeared online. They came from a hack of Rockstar by Arion Kurtaj, then 17 and a member of the Lapsus$ group. A UK court found he was responsible, and in December 2023 he was sentenced to an indefinite hospital order.
What the clips showed
An unfinished build with placeholder art: a male and a female lead, a Vice City setting and heists. Rockstar later officially revealed Jason and Lucia, Vice City and the state of Leonida.
The early Trailer 1
Trailer 1 was due on 5 December 2023 but leaked online the evening before, so Rockstar released it early.
The 2025 firings
In late 2025 Rockstar fired more than 30 staff in the UK and Canada. Rockstar says they shared confidential information about its games on a public channel. The union IWGB says the firings were union-busting, which Rockstar calls false.
Leaks versus facts
For anything about GTA 6, trust what Rockstar has confirmed: the release date, price, characters and map. Leaked file sizes, release times and PC versions are often fake.
